Performance Pulse Set Up

Getting Started

Setting up Performance Pulse Goals starts with your account settings. In the account settings, navigate to the Performance Lanes section. Setting up lanes will create the groundwork for the goals that are created later on. Performance Lanes can be used to represent the revenue channels for your business such as brands, product lines, manufacturers, or services. To create Performance Lanes, click on the “Add new lane” button. A row will populate in your settings and here you can enter the name of your Performance Lane and enable it as an option for deals. 

Marking Performance Lane Required

To get the most out of Performance Pulse, we recommend marking the Deal Performance Pulse field as required through Add/Edit Forms in your account settings. This will help to enforce adoption of your new metric tracking tool by reminding your team that this new field should be added to deals going forward. At any point, you can always come back and uncheck the required checkbox if that’s what works best for your team.

To mark this field as required, click on the Add/Edit Forms column in account settings. In the Deal section under Add/Edit forms locate the field labeled Deal Performance Pulse. To mark this field as required, use the checkbox to the right of the Deal Performance Pulse. Once the box has been selected, your preference will automatically save and the next time your team edits or creates a new deal they will have a reminder to populate this field.

Adding Performance Lanes to Deals

In order for a deal amount to count towards a Performance Pulse Goal, the deal must have a Performance Lane assigned to it. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. The first way is to edit a deal from the deal profile page.  From your deals list view you can select a specific deal to navigate to the deal profile page. In the Deal Details section of your deal profile page there is a new Performance Lane field available for use. It’s important to note that Performance Lanes must first be configured in the Account settings in order to use this drop down menu. Once your selection is made, the page will automatically save it and this deal will be ready to track toward your Performance Pulse Goal.

The second way to add or modify a Performance Lane on an existing deal is to use the Edit Deal button on your deal profile. This will bring up the Editing window which is similar to the create a new deal window. To add or modify the Performance Lane locate the drop down menu in the Editing window and select your preferred Lane. Before leaving this page be sure to click Save. If you don’t your progress won’t save properly.

The third way to add Performance Lanes to your deals is to use the Update by Import feature in your Pipeline account. Performance Lanes are supported for Deal imports. Once your prepared file is successfully imported, the deals associated to your Performance Lanes will be ready to track towards your Performance Pulse Goals. 

Create A Performance Pulse Goal

After the lanes have been created, any executive on the account is able to make a Performance Pulse Goal using the configured Performance Lanes. To create a new goal click on Goals from the top navigation bar. If your company has never used a Goal feature in your Pipeline account before, you’ll see a list of goal types to choose from:

Note: If you have not configured a Performance Lane you will not be able to create a Performance Pulse Goal. Instead, you will be directed to create your first Performance Lane.

If your company has utilized a Goal in your Pipeline Account before, you will see a different screen. In this screen at the bottom of the page there is an option to Add a new Performance Pulse Goal. In the filter window under the Performance Pulse Goal section there is a plus sign. Select the plus sign to create a new Performance Pulse Goal.

Using either of the options to create a new goal will bring you to The New Performance Pulse Goal creation page. This page has two configuration options to help you configure your goal. 

Option 1 is to create your goal manually by using the fields provided. To get started, name your goal! This goal name will appear in your goals tab in the Performance Pulse Goal Filter, and it is the first indicator to your team on where to start looking to see goal progress. Once you have your name entered, pick the Start date and End date for that goal.  This could be an annual goal, a quarterly goal, a monthly goal, or a specific time-span that makes sense for your business.

The next step is to assign your team members a revenue goal by Performance Lane, or multiple Lanes if applicable. Each Performance Pulse Goal can be configured to support multiple Performance Lanes, multiple team members, and even executive users to provide a complete overview of your business targets. To set up a goal for an individual contributor, or team member, click on the + Add new contribution button. This will populate a row in the table below that button where you can select an active user from your Pipeline account. Next, select the Performance Lane for this row. After you have your team member and Performance Lane,  enter in the total numeric amount of this user’s specific goal and hit close. This will give you a summary at the bottom of the configuration page to help keep track of the total amount by Performance Lane and by your Pipeline Account Team configuration. You may add or remove as many rows as necessary to complete your goal configuration. 

Option 2, if you have multiple rows that you would like to create for your goal, Performance Pulse offers an Import Goal option. Click on the Import Goal Button. This will prompt you with a window to import a CSV file. The instruction window also provides you with an example and a downloadable import template. Prepare your file based on the requirements listed in the instructions window, and select Choose File. Select your file, and when ready select the Import button at the bottom of the window. A successful Import will direct you back the New Performance Pulse Goal where you can review your file before you click Complete and save goal.


When all of the individual contributions have been made or imported, click Complete and save goal. The screen will redirect you to the Goals page where you can view your newly created Performance Pulse Goal. To view your goal, locate your goal by name, and click on the circle button next to it.
